| The Moscow Fire
Department is in charge with the Fire protection of a population of over
10 millions inhabitants. Even though nowadays the majority of the new
fire trucks are of western technology, the Fire Department still runs
most of its fleed of russian products. Especially trucks from ZIL, Kamaz
and Ural are widely used. The standard fire respond unit is based
on one 30 m ladder truck and two pumpers which are all mounted on
ZIL. Kamaz bodies are mostly being used for heavy trucks such as
Bronto Skylifts, ladders or heavy pumpers. Ural produces a heavy rescue
pumper. You will be disappointed if you expect a lot of special trucks
in Russia. Russia is most likely the only country on earth that knows a
certain limitation on trucks. The standardization in the former Soviet
Union was being pushed for years preventing new developments. Nowadays
the Russians use more and more ladder trucks from Magirus and elevating
platforms built by Bronto Skylift. |
